Union County Munch Madness Thirsty 32 | Waxhaw

WAXHAW – Six of the eight of first-round matches in Union County Weekly’s 2024 Munch Madness bracket challenge went to the restaurant with the better seed.

The biggest upset, as far as seeds were concerned, was No. 12 Capricci’s True Italian defeating No. 5 Cork & Ale. The other upset was No. 9 Bistro D’Antonio over No. 8 El Vallarta.

Second-round matches are as follows:

• No. 1 Maxwell’s Tavern, which is the reigning Munch Madness champion and a popular spot in downtown Waxhaw since 2010, takes on

No. 9 Bistro D’Antonio, an Italian restaurant that opened in 2016 with a variety of scaloppini dishes and other entrees.

• No. 2 Provisions Waxhaw, which is not just a shop but also a cafe that serves breakfast and lunch, squares off against No. 7 Queens South Bar & Grill, whose name tells the story of a New York couple that moved to Waxhaw and brought good Italian food with them.

• No. 3 Emmet’s Social Table, a restaurant that serves small plates in a unique seating layout within what used to be a cotton mill, challenges No. 6 Stacks Kitchen, a diner known for its all-day breakfast but also offers a sizable lunch menu.

• No. 4 Mary O’Neil’s Irish Pub, whose specialties include The Kilmaine burger, the Mary's Classic Reuben and Bangers and Mash, faces No. 12 Capricci’s True Italian, which serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas, classic pasta dishes and other entrees.
