STALLINGS – Stallings Parks and Recreation celebrated the grand opening March 7 of a new playground at Stallings Municipal Park.

The playground offers kids plenty of structures to climb and multiple slides.

“That playground really is awesome,” Parks and Recreation Director Eunice Donnelly told the Stallings Town Council on March 11. “Those kids absolutely love it. If you drive by on the weekend, it’s like ants on an ant hill out there.”

Mayor Wyatt Dunn, Mayor Pro Tempore David Scholl and Council Member Steven Ayers were part of the park’s March 7 ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Lot of kids had a great time,” Dunn said. “That award-winning park will keep winning awards I would imagine. So thank you to Eunice and her team. If you haven’t gone over and seen the addition to our park, please take your kids and grandkids over there.”

The park will be closed March 11 and 12 to allow staff to install new lighting and mulch to the playground area.

Blair Mill Greenway nearly ready

Parks and Recreation Director Eunice Donnelly shared with the council March 11 that the Blair Mill Greenway is ready for its grand opening. Her goal is to open the greenway right before Easter so families can enjoy it during spring break.

The greenway was designed to connect Blair Mill Park to the Idlewild Market commercial area. The project included installing thermoplastic imprinted asphalt and a pedestrian beacon to allow for safe crossing through Stevens Mill Road.

Donnelly proposed having the ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. March 25. It would include a tent with giveaways and information boards explaining why the half-mile greenway abruptly ends. The council was receptive to Donnelly’s plans.

Blair Mill Park is one of six greenway trails outlined for the northern area of town from Lawyers Road to Blair Mill Park in the Connect Stallings Greenway & Recreation Master Plan approved in February 2019.
