The Matthews region of Union County Weekly’s Munch Madness consists of all the restaurants you’ll find in the 28104 zip code, which tend to have those pesky Matthews, N.C. mailing addresses. This includes restaurants in Stallings and Wesley Chapel.
Bisonte Pizza reached the Final Fork in 2023, earning the top seed in the Greater Matthews bracket for 2024. Stallings Rockstore Bar-B-Q, Mama’s Pizza and Carnitas Guanajuato Mexican Restaurant were also among the highest-performing restaurants in last year’s tournament.
Cornerstone Pub & Grill, a restaurant in the Idlewild Market in Stallings, was not on last year’s bracket.
One quirk about the Matthews region is that the bracket published in the March 15 print edition of Union County Weekly had a couple of restaurants that permanently closed in 2023: No. 8 Saveeda’s American Bistro in Wesley Chapel and No. 16 Lucy’s Bake and Deli in Stallings. Because voting is done online and we caught the oversight before voting started, we removed these restaurants from the field, moved up all restaurants after Saveea’s up one seed and added Mama's Italian Restaurant & Bar and Curry Place as the replacements.
