As if having to settle for a third of the Southern Carolina 3A/4A conference title following his team’s 16-0 loss to Porter Ridge wasn’t bad enough, Sun Valley coach Scott Stein certainly wasn’t happy with the way his team failed to protect quarterback Kevin Saxton in the fourth quarter, especially when a sack resulted in a safety late in the game.
“We put ourselves in a situation where we had to (pass the ball), and we didn’t protect,” Stein said. “We didn’t do our job. We had our chances in the red zone and didn’t get it in, and when we did, we seemed to do something wrong to make it go away. (The Pirates are) a good football team, and you can’t give them points. That’s the way it goes.”
