I would just like to say thanks to county commissioners for agreeing to cut taxes this coming year. Now yes, the exact amount of the cut hasn’t been determined yet, but heck even 1 cent would be appreciated. Those opposing a small cut have the same problem as our elected officials in Washington. They don’t understand that even an extra $20 is welcome, when you’re living paycheck to paycheck. I also appreciate that it was a unanimous vote, that county commissioners were able to put aside their personal differences and vote for what’s right.
At the same time, I’m not blind. That extra $54 million will help balance the budget for one year, but not beyond. To maintain a tax cut beyond one year, the county will either have to significantly increase the amount of new business they bring in or make painful cuts. Still, all problems aren’t fixed in a day and I thank everyone involved who made it so at least for one year, I’ll have a lower tax bill.
