Ok, I got behind commissioners’ plans to do away with the county health insurance benefit. After all, they’re part time employees and I have yet to meet the company that funds health insurance for part timers. But now, going back and reading, I find after al that talk, no action was taken. Granted, existing members couldn’t have insurance taken away, I got that much from the newspaper’s story. What stopped commissioners from eliminating it in future boards, in order to make a viable effort to trim the cost of government?

There are hundreds of private companies and even counties within North Carolina that offer health benefits to part-timers. That being said, that was never about really saving any money. It was petty politics and the proof is exactly what you pointed out…no action.
