Community blood drive at Lakeview Baptist

MONROE – Lakeview Baptist Church will host a community blood drive Sunday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 120 pounds and be in good health.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is kicking off the 2012 holiday season with its annual “Puppies for Patients” program where donors who give blood in November and December will be able to sign a tag that will be attached to a stuffed puppy and delivered to children in area hospitals.

Hospice of Union County Holiday Auction

MONROE – First Baptist Church of Monroe will host the 26th annual Hospice of Union County Holiday Auction on Nov. 10, a Saturday. A preview of the auction items will take place at 8 a.m., followed by the auction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event includes a live and silent auction.  Individuals and businesses in the community donate all the auction items, and all proceeds go to patient care. Circle Eight Auction & Realty are the auctioneers for the event and Union Power Cooperative is the presenting sponsor.

Chicken and Dumplings dinner at Stallings UMC

STALLINGS – The United Methodist Women of Stallings United Methodist Church will host their annual Chicken and Dumplings dinner Saturday, Nov. 3, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Community Jubilee at First Presbyterian

MONROE – First Presbyterian Church of Monroe will host its ninth annual Community Jubilee on Nov. 17, a Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Siler Presbyterian gears up for November events

WESLEY CHAPEL – Siler Presbyterian Church will host several community events during the month of November.

The church will hold its annual chicken and dumplings dinner and country store on Saturday, Nov. 3. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the dinner starts at 5 p.m.

Team Church launches Politics of Jesus series

MATTHEWS – During the month of November, Team Church is presenting a series of sermons called “Politics of Jesus.” The lessons focus on how Jesus interacted with people 2,000 years ago.

Turnaround Toys events this weekend

WAXHAW – The JAARS Center of Waxhaw is partnering with Turnaround Toys of Union County and will visit neighborhoods in the Providence area on Saturday, Nov. 3, to collect gently used toys.

Community members should leave a bag with these toys by their mailbox by 9 a.m. JAARS will pick up the toys between 9:30 and 11 a.m. and place tax receipts in each donor’s mailbox.

A celebration will follow at Sutton Park Recreation Center in Monroe from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The event features free toys, face painting, balloons, games and a puppet show.

Turnaround Toys is a local charitable organization that collects gently used toys from the community and then gives them all free to impoverished
children of Union County and Charlotte.

Impact classes, “multiply” event at Southbrook

WEDDINGTON – During the month of November, Southbrook Church is hosting a series of “Impact” classes focused on sharing the mission and vision of the church with community members, taking steps toward a better prayer life, studying scripture and learning about spiritual gifts.

Chick-fil-A hosts Operation Christmas Child event

WESLEY CHAPEL – The Chick-fil-A of Wesley Chapel is teaming up with Samaritan’s Purse organization Operation Christmas Child to make the season special for children overseas.

Community members are encouraged to take an empty shoebox, fill it up with approved Operation Christmas Child goodies and bring it to the restaurant between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. The restaurant will award a coupon for one free chicken sandwich for each donated shoebox.

Providence UMC offers holiday grief group

Providence United Methodist Church is inviting people to a grief support group next weekend.

The Rev. Beth Brittain, chaplain and grief counselor with Hospice and Palliative Care, will present a program called Living With Grief During the Holidays for those who have lost a loved one. The program, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the church, is free and open to the public.
