People can sign up to be a volunteer on the Government Affairs Committee of the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
The group works to influence “elected officials to establish regulations and policies that will improve the ability of a business to compete in the worldwide economy and continue to generate income and jobs that will help to enhance Union County,” according to a news release from the chamber.
Potential volunteers can learn more by calling the chamber at 704-289-4567.
Meanwhile, the chamber is collecting items to help local nonprofits, like the Matthews Playhouse, which serve people in both Mecklenburg and Union counties. The playhouse needs donations of paper, pens and post-it notes; paint brushes, rollers and pans; bottled water, Rubbermaid-type containers; gift cards to home improvement stores and the use of a truck to haul set pieces short distances.
