Battle of the Bands rescheduled

South Piedmont Community College’s fifth annual Battle of the Bands got beat up by weather earlier this year, but is looking to make a comeback this month.

The school has scheduled the event for Aug. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Helen Goodman Amphitheater on the L.L. Polk Campus in Polkton. Admission to the event is free. People can see performances by Fire Fire, 21st Century Goliath, Clear Water Band, Something Clever, Sons of Saron, Michael Tracy, Brandon Kirkley and the Firecrackers, Eleanora Fagan, All Era, Craving Jane, Absolute Conviction and Carson Hill.

The stakes are a good bit higher this year, as the first-place winner now gets $1,500. That’s three times last year’s top prize. Second place gets $750 and third place gets $500.

The event is sponsored by the school’s Student Government Association. Find more information at the school’s website, www.spcc.edu.
