If Esarove, Stokes, Weber and Steele, the new majority on council, have their way citizens won't receive any news, electronically or otherwise. Weber started harping on disclaimers in emails a few weeks ago, much the same way Al Graham did a few years ago. Esarove suggested doing without Granicus during budget discussions, which allows citizens and news services to listen to audio of council meetings. What is the new majority afraid of, and what is their hidden agenda? The mayor gave her honest opinion on the NCDOT/Turnpike Authority dilemma with SELC. I don't know how anyone in their right mind believes that the bypass project can or will be allowed to move ahead without years of studies, lawsuits and huge expenditures, with no guarantee that positive rulings will result for the efforts. I have observed no mail, email, printed articles, or any other communication from anyone at Stallings town hall except from Paxton, Dunn and Frost, and what is found on the towns website. The moment Steele and Weber were elected they went silent on their Facebook pages. This doesn't sound like transparency in government to me.

In our council meeting this evening, Councilman Reed Esarove publicly criticized and challenged my statement about dishonesty and deception of the public. Maybe he doesn't accept the NCTA's admission in court that they knowingly and repeatedly used data for the "built" scenario in describing the "no build" scenario as dishonesty. He also complained that my comments were "inappropriate" and might be perceived as the opinion of council. I trust that the Weekly readers are intelligent enough to discriminate between use of "i " as personal opinion and not any suggestion of an offiicial position of the governing body.
