MONROE – Seventh-graders and eighth-graders at Monroe Middle School learned a little about college life recently when they got to hang out and perform with students at Wingate University.

The students were at a Preparing for College seminar as part of a new partnership between the Monroe Middle Visual and Performing Arts Learning Community and Wingate’s Music Department. The recent clinic allowed students to perform with the university’s music majors and work with the school’s director of bands, Dr. Dawn Perry.

After the clinic, Monroe Middle students took a walking tour of the Wingate campus and attended a seminar about getting ready for college with special emphasis on test scores, extracurricular activities and more.
