This sure looks like more of the same old thing. Let's make it all look good, supply money to support business's, add signs to find places, spend money on parks, but no money to protect Indian Trail. It does not make any since to me, why supporting the most important service in Indian Trail is not increased to the minimum number of Deputies equal to the population which is 1 deputy per 1000 population, which means that we should have 34 deputies when we only have 22. If you live in Indian Trail let the council know that you expect the 27% tax increase last year to be spent on what should be our number 1 priority, increase hire the deputies to protect Indian Trail!!!!!

Having strong, ethical leadership is the key to making everything mentioned by Mayor Alvarez happen. For any leader of any town to get involved in a circus like atmosphere of slandering residents by using government e-mail, Facebook and the news media takes away from what that Mayor was elected to do. The job of Mayor is to preside over the Council meetings, set the agenda for each meeting , keep the discussions civil and on topic. The Mayor should continually remind the Council to abide by their ethics policy., not to set examples of how not to abide by the ethics policy! Please Mayor Alvarez , you can start setting the good example for the residents at anytime.

@S McKnight If it expired we would still be serviced by the Union County Sheriff's, but we wont have dedicated officers for Indian trail. So when the neighborhood thug is breaking into you car, garage and you dial 911, the closest officer might be coming from Monroe

A great concept to have no designated law enforcement officers for a town with a population of 35,000. Instead , we can wait for a deputy to respond to anywhere in Indian Trail from the other side of Union County if he or she are the only available deputy at the time. If the contract expires the deputies would be reassigned elsewhere in the county since there is no deputy work station for them to work out of in Indian Trail once it has closed. Can Indian Trail afford their own police department with the current tax base? Would Indian Trail be able to have the same amount of officers we have now for the price of the current contract? We can use the money saved by not renewing the contract to buy Christmas decorations for the town since there are few, if any or for some other important purchases. I am sure all of us can come up with more options to spend that money on other than for law enforcement.

People came to Indian Trail for the lower taxes, which are increasing and will continue to increase due to several bonds being passed in the past that have not been implemented yet. Amenities are not free nor is the maintenance for them. If there are no jobs in Indian Trail why would people move there and with higher taxes.. Look at Lancaster SC and how it is becoming a ghost town due to Springs Industries leaving. How much money of their budget is being used for the upkeep of parks with a lower tax base? INFRASTRUCTURE is needed now for the future growth of parks and whatever else is necessary to keep up with nearby towns.

With a little research, S. Mc Night could answer his own question. Using his logic here is a question: Why don't all towns disband their police departments and just let the Sheriff's Office patrol their towns as they do the unincorporated parts of Union County? Wouldn't the towns save a lot of money?

Why do we need a contract with the Sheriff anyway? Isn't their job to patrol the town and the rest of the county? What happens if the town just lets the contract expire? Do the deputies just stop working?

Looking forward to using new parks! So thankf that those of us who do not live in neighborhoods with HOAs and amenities will get some benefit from our taxes. We don't even get curbside trash pickup without a curb much less sidewalks to stroll down. However, I do appreciate the Union County Sheriff's Department protection and the West Union library branch too.
